Many of you are aware of the situation that has been taking place in Los Bordos Community over the past few weeks: The Bordos is a slum community comprising over 4,000 individuals who have set up their homes along the outskirts of the city of San Pedro Sula Honduras…Their “homes” consist of items you would find in your every day dumpster; their living conditions are absolutely deplorable.
We have been working in this community for a number of years bringing in humanitarian relief. initiating discipleship programs, and sponsoring children for school.
Recently the government have been evicting these families from their homes in this community causing upheaval and even less stability to their already precarious conditions.
Fortunately, we have been able to help a few families “find their feet” and plant them in better living conditions.
One family in particular that we have been able to assist is Familia Escobar. We have been working with them over the past year to help them with their own produce stand as a way to generate a stable income for their family. With the government coming in and gang violence rising, they were forced to move to another city, about 2 hours away .
By the time we were able to contact them, we found them struggling; their little girl, Breydi, was very sick and needed immediate medical attention- something they had no access to on their own. Through our local team on the ground, we were able to send Breydi to the doctor to receive the necessary treatment and she is well on the road to recovery. We helped them to stock their food supply and also made sure they had all the necessary materials for the children to attend school (books, crayons, uniforms, etc.). This is one other family who has been given an opportunity for a better future!
This is why we are here- not to give a hand out, but a hand up- to bridge the gap between those who have a need and those who supply the need. Next week, we are sending a small team of missionaries to Los Bordos Community to bring in relief for those who are there suffering and share the LOVE of God in a real and tangible way.
